Studio Build and an Eye to the Future

Well. It’s been a few weeks since my last blog post. Apologies for that. I have to say the time has not been completely wasted.

I’ve been busy over the last couple months finishing out my garden shed and converting it into a functional, and most importantly, a comfortable painting studio. You see when my wife, Diana, and I moved to NC just about six months ago we made a promise to one another that we’d refocus ourselves and pursue objectives in life to enhance our enjoyment and feeling of fulfillment. When we purchased our home I did notice right away a 200 square foot garden shed framed up and wired with lights and outlets. At the time I envisioned a workshop at some point or yeah maybe down the line a painting studio. It was exciting but best saved for the future. Well, once we purchased the house I began painting in our garage and I have to say it sucked. I mean, the mosquitos sucked mostly. Literally. And the NC summers are hot. So painting in a sweltering garage being devoured by mosquitos was basically unacceptable. I sat with Diana and we talked. We reminded each other of our new vow—to love a more enjoyable life. To pursue happiness and fulfillment. I’m ever grateful to her because she and I agreed that I should go ahead and buy drywall, insulation, and all the supplies needed to finish that garden shed and build myself a proper painting studio!

And so that’s what I did. Over the past two months or so I’ve been plugging away at the space. Seeing small progress day by day I managed to cut a ridge vent in the roof, repair some rotten bottom plates, enhance some lighting, add insulation, drywall, paint and trim. And just like that (and a bit more money than I budgeted) I had myself a proper studio. And it feels so unbelievably good! Not only to have a cooler, mosquito-free space to work, but the entire thing has my own dna and fingerprints everywhere. I love it. And I hope you love it, too! Because I think it’s the best thing I’ve done for my work in a long, long time.

Until next time! Please stay in touch and check back frequently for updated work. Take care.
